Accidents remain a big challenge for Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu who is pro-actively revamping the railways. 2016 proved to be more dangerous for trains than 2015 which had only seven collisions and derailments in which 65 people were killed. In 2016, nearly 150 people were killed in Indore-Patna Express derailment alone. This one was the biggest railway accident in the world in 2016. Here's a list of major train accidents all over the world which look small in comparison to the Indore-Patna Express accident:

Italy
As many as 23 people were killed and dozens were injured when two passenger trains collided between Bari and Barletta. Having four carriages each, the trains were on the same track when they collided. Mayor Massimo Mazzilli said it appeared as a plane had crashed.

Cameroon
At least 55 people were killed and over 575 were injured after Camrail inter-city passenger train derailed en route to the port city of Douala. The ill-fated train had got some additional coaches attached to accommodate extra passengers before it departed from Yaounde.
