    Bertelsmann India Investments (BII), the venture capital arm of German multinational conglomerate Bertelsmann SE, has raised $500 million to invest in India over the next few years, its top India executive said.

    Bertelsmann India Investments (BII), the venture capital arm of German multinational conglomerate Bertelsmann SE, has raised $500 million to invest in India over the next few years, its top India executive said.

    The growth stage-focused firm does not have an India-dedicated fund and invests out of the parent’s balance sheet. It will now look to do early-stage deals, Pankaj Makkar, managing director, Bertelsmann India Investments told ET. This comes at a time when other VC firms such as Sequoia Capital India, Accel India, Matrix Partners, and Elevation Capital have also stepped up their India play and mopped up larger pools of capital to deploy in the region.
