PAKISTAN TRAIN ACCIDENT

The US Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the undersea implosion the Titan submersible that killed all five people aboard while diving to the century-old wreck of the Titanic. The findings will be shared with the International Maritime Organization and other groups to help improve the safety framework for submersible operations worldwide.

The train accident in Odisha's Balasore has claimed the lives of 238 people, South Eastern Railway said on Saturday. Several coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Bahanaga station in Odisha's Balasore after hitting a goods train on Friday. According to official data, so far 268 people dead and more than 900 injured.

At least 233 people died and over 900 others were injured when 17 coaches of the Coromandel Express and SMVT-Howrah Super Fast Express derailed in Odisha's Balasore district on Friday. It is one of the deadliest railway accidents in India in the last 15 years. There were other tragic railway accidents around the world in the last decade, including the Greek collision in 2023 that claimed 57 lives, the Pakistan farmlands accident in 2021 that killed around 63 people and Taiwan tragedy in 2021, which left 49 people dead and 200 injured.

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said holding the G20 event in Kashmir will not benefit tourism in the Valley till India and Pakistan resolve the "future" of the Union Territory through dialogue. Pakistani engineers combed the mangled wreckage of two trains that collided in a remote farming region, an accident that killed dozens and highlighted huge safety problems on the nation's dilapidated rail network. The accident occurred early Monday when a high-speed passenger train knifed through carriages of another express that had derailed minutes earlier near Daharki in Sindh province.

The collision, in which bogies of the Millat Express train overturned, took place near Dharki, a city located in the Ghotki district of upper Sindh. An emergency has been declared at hospitals in Ghotki, Dharki, Obaro and Mirpur Mathelo where injured were rushed.

At least 36 people were killed and 72 injured when a Taiwan train derailed in a tunnel on Friday after apparently hitting a truck in the island's worst rail disaster in at least four decades.
